Best Friend Tribute

This year marks our 5th annual 42 Reunion Anniversary and it seems only fitting to honor the man that was the “Catalyst” for renewing relationships and communication with all our wonderful old friends.

The ’42 Best Friend Tribute goes to our dear nostalgic friend, whose faithfulness and diligence in establishing a continuing communication with all his “old buddies”, friends, family, coaches and people from the past is a gift few of us are blessed with.  He continues to be one of our best contributors to our “42 Reunions”. If you don’t join us, he is relentless in keeping you informed of the next adventure. Eventually you break down and join in and then have to wonder what you missed.

We all remember our first reunion in Las Vegas for 1st light’s & 3 red 7’s, 25th wedding anniversary. WHAT A MEMORY THAT WAS, WHAT WITH THE “ELVIS WEDDING” limo ride and all.  Remember the tearful parting and hugs when we said goodbye with the promise to plan to be together the next year …and the rest is history. We’ve now have added to our history books 2 cruises, a trip to Oregon, the Tahoe Adventure in addition to 2 trips to James’ ranch ….(just because), in addition to the first Vegas trip. Our picture books are full and we have added a million memories to our treasure chest.

He is one of the most prolific writers we have known and we have all enjoyed the tales he weaves immensely, even the bizarre and incredulous ones. His imagination and ability to construct the details with such great imagination is enviable.  The other source of enjoyment he has provided are the great games he invents. We are all amazed at those creative thoughts. It takes a committee to separate truth from fiction in the stories created by this man. Anybody that can solve his puzzles had a 4 point or better average in school.

He is such a sentimentalist and goes to a great deal of effort to compose a myriad of pictures and special thoughts and posts them web-site for the enjoyment of all of us. We all enjoy and more often than not are quite puzzled with the games and puzzles created by him. His thoughtfulness, special words and messages honoring his friends on special events is enjoyed and appreciated by each and every one of us.

We are all honored and blessed to have such a close companion and “True Friend”.  Our lives have been enriched by such a great companion, with a wonderful sense of humor, possessing the gift of being a true friend.

Yes, Robert McWhorter you are indeed a treasured friend to all and “We Love You”. Gigi

"Roberto, Roberto, you are a big ole "softie" and you give the best hugs and kisses of any of us.  You are definitely "one in a million".  Thanks for being my friend". BOE LILL

"Robert was "My Big Brother" in the Fraternity in college (for the short time I was there - ha) and always, always
gave me good advice and was always there for me and still is. Love Ya, Brother!!! JIM LILL

Robert is a guy that keeps our group moving forward with his quest for new adventures that are fun and with his mind of "imagination"!! Tooter

To me Robert is thoughtful, kind and fun loving guy.  Some of the things he dreams up for us to do challenge me,

for I am shy, but usually they keep us laughing and  keeps us having a great time.  Thanks for the memories. Carolyn

I’m glad Evelyn suggested that we recognize your leadership in re-establishing the relationship with our friends from the good old Amarillo days.  You and I were so very fortunate to have grown up with such wonderful friends, and for us now to get together with them on a regular basis is a true blessing.  I recognize that you were the catalyst that made this possible, and I am grateful to you for that.

You are the best of what represents a friend and a brother.  You were my hero throughout our childhood, and you were always there for me in more ways than you know.  My admiration and respect for you grows year by year. I love you, big brother. JAMES

Thank you, Robert, for being the loving, caring person that you are to everyone! I'm so glad you reconnected all of the "42ers" several years ago! I am truly blessed to be a part of such a wonderful group! And we are all lucky to have you as our friend! Thanks for being you!! Shayne

In the short time I have known Robert and the few times I have been around  him, it is easy to describe him.  He is caring, loyal, loving and always ready to have fun.  But above all, he is a great friend and I am happy that I have joined that list of friends. Twila

I started to school at Glenwood, but just stayed there for one semester. So I didn't get to know Robert until we started playing baseball against each other. When I did get to know him better, I knew we would be friends for a long time. He was one of the reason I came to our 50th reunion. I knew he was coming. Who else  but a friend would go to your science teacher (Mrs. Roberts I think) every Friday and talk her into raising my grade so I would be eligible to play baseball. Robert was a fun guy to run with and I didn't know of anyone he couldn't get along with...(pretty long, huh)....... Johnny

Robert, I’ll never forget after meeting you and Lavern for the first time in Las Vegas, how yall made me feel like we had been friends forever.  Not only that, but you have been so good to call and check on us and all our ailments this past year.  If it hadn’t been for you, I’m afraid we would be missing out on some real good times to come.   You’re definitely an “original” and I hope our friendship will do nothing but grow.  Thank you for who you are! Sandi

Robert, I’ve always respected and admired you for the many outstanding qualities you possess.  I’m not exactly sure when we first met, but it was probably on a ball field somewhere. I will always remember your leadership when we were young and appreciate the kindness you conveyed to those around you.  I feel truly blessed to have known you for these many years. Fraternally yours, Jargo

Robert, Because of your amazing ability to create great adventures I am able to call a wonderful group of people friends. We have made and will continue to share many beautiful memories. Thank you for this beautiful gift. Lavern

I’ve known Robert since the 1st grade in Glenwood Elementary School. He gets more interesting each and every year. Truly a person you want as a friend. JACK
