Election 2008
( a lengthy read but worth the effort if you are up to the challenge!)

The Ladies of the 42 Green Domino Group are hoping to finally gain control of the organization, not by their
drop-dead beauty, charm, or coercion, but by the ballot! The Gentlemen, who have long held the notion that
they control the group, have agreed to let the ballot box determine the group's leadership, although they
could rely on their great personalities, good-looks and unquestionable charisma to maintain control.
This will not be a typical election! The election will be about determining who should occupy the
Greenhouse for the next year and, the key to victory will be whether voters get or don't get to the polls
and whether the ladies will be able to tell if any voters are disenfranchised by "the Establishment!"

The proposition for this election is..."Resolved..that the ladies of the 42 GreenDomino group should
be in charge of all leadership functions for the group
throughout the rest of the 2008 and all of 2009"
The election will be conducted under the direction of the Good Old Boys of the group, (the Establishment),
except for the one chosen by the ladies as their poll-watcher. They will determine which ladies will vote and
when. They will be responsible for the integrity of the process and will insure that no tampering of voting
equipment or cases of voter fraud will be tolerated.

The six ladies plus their male poll-watcher will enter the private voting booth one at a time; the ladies as they
are randomly selected and scheduled by the election officials, and the poll-watcher at the end of each hour of
voting. The polls will be open for 7 hours. In the booth there will be two levers, each of which has a "yes"
position and a "no" position. So the possible votes are, yes/yes, yes/no, no/yes, and no/no. However, a lady,
as she votes, can only change one lever, not both, from it's position of "yes" to "no" or from "no" to "yes" as
the case may be.

A lady, picked at random by the Election Officials (the Establishment), will enter the voting booth every 10
minutes and, either change a lever to vote to support their cause, or, if they have already voted at an earlier
time, change a voting lever in a way that will convey valuable information to her poll-watcher Remember,
each voter can change one and only one lever from its position of "yes" to "no" or "no" to "yes" as they vote.
You can see the dilemma! At the end of each hour, the poll-watcher will enter the booth, gather what
information he can from the positions of the two levers, record his findings, and then, change one and only one
lever from its position of "yes" to "no" or "no" to "yes". Over the 7 hours, 6 ladies each hour will be allowed
into the voting booth at 10 minute intervals, having been selected randomly by the Election Officials (the
Establishment), so, at the end of the 7 hours, not all of the ladies will necessarily have been admitted to the
voting booth and given the opportunity to vote.

The key to victory is, when the polls close, whether the poll-watcher can declare with certainty that 1) All 6
of the ladies voted, or 2) Not all 6 of the ladies voted! A declaration either way will mean a victory!
Prior to the election, the ladies and their poll-watcher must have a strategy that will insure their victory...ie.
based on the way the ladies vote, their poll-watcher will be able to tell for certain whether they all get to
vote or not!
After the election commences, ladies may not visit or talk to each other until the election is over. The
poll-watcher, at the end of each hour, must change one of the levers in the voting booth the way he has
been instructed to do so by the ladies based on the plan or strategy they have developed.
When the election begins, the two levers will both be in the "no" position. Election officials guarantee that the
levers will not be changed, switched or tampered with during the election.

The Challenge:
Can these poor women gain the kind of respect they so desperately seek by developing, or getting assistance
in developing a strategy that will enable them to win this election and take control of the 42 Green domino
organization? If you can help them out please do so. We will be looking on the guestbook for any words of
wisdom or plans that will help these great ladies! I'm sure they will find some way to show their appreciation!
But, then again, they may not need any help at all! We will see!
